When he announces that he’s gonna liberate them from the hegemonic power of lord farquaad he’s draped in a coat of flowers, symbolism

Now we can compare farquaad’s house to Shrek’s.. Farquaad’s house is like stones and iron and chains and glass and lights and technology because he’s white but not magic (not of the fairy tale class).. Shrek’s entire life is connecting to nature and using traditional ecological knowledge to navigate and farquaad’s is using power to dominate and utilizing technology to oppress the other classes

Also note that Shrek knows how to make food from the earth even outside of his swamp, he makes Fiona balloons from nature, he recognized the smell of brimstone in order to navigate when they were looking for Fiona etc. like this movie is very much about how poc with traditional qualitative ecological knowledge and connections are vilified and demonized but also institutionally oppressed (he has to risk his life to help the white lord to get rights to his own swamp). In the beginning of the movie the white people are literally going into Shrek’s neighborhood and home to attack him with pitchforks and fire when he was having a nice evening in minding his business
